Muffler Silencer

Most people think that a muffler silencer is only good for reducing the noise an engine makes. So that when they hear a car making a lot of noise they probably think that if it doesn’t have a damaged exhaust system, it’s probably missing a muffler. It is true that performance primarily depends on your car and engine; however certain types of muffler silencers also contribute to increased performance. So while you might be choosing your muffler on the basis of the kind of sound you want it to produce, you might also want to consider those mufflers which reduce backpressure and are less restrictive.

People who often want to get as much engine performance on their cars usually use glass pack mufflers. This type of mufflers reduces the produced backpressure. You want to do this because backpressure often takes a little power from the engine. Also reduced backpressure decreases engine wear and improves efficiency. In a glass pack muffler, the exhaust goes straight through a pipe, perforated with holes, so that this type of muffler absorbs sound rather than directing backpressure towards the engine. This pipe is surrounded by a layer of glass insulation, hence the name, which absorbs some of the pressure pulses. However, while backpressure is reduced it does not muffle the sound as much as another type of muffler silencer and is therefore noisier. Still performance-wise, this may be the type of muffler you may want to consider.

The Cherry Bomb Glass pack is a straight-thru design muffler available in the market. Made out of 100% welded, aluminized steel in reversible design meant for maximum installation flexibility. It has a compact round body size with high temp finish. This muffler is ideal for car and truck applications. The Cherry Bomb brand also offers other muffler lines such as Cherry Bomb Vortex, Pro, Extreme, Turbo and Elite.

However, if you are more concerned with the kind of sound your muffler produces, a chambered muffler silencer may be more suitable for you. They reduce noise by cancelling out the sound by reflecting sound waves at the baffles. Since these baffles have different configurations depending on the design they also produce different kinds of sounds and therefore different options for you to choose from. They say that these chambered mufflers don’t exactly rank in terms of performance enhancement but there are actually good chambered muffler silencers in the market that can compete with glass pack mufflers such as the Flowmaster mufflers.

Flowmaster offers different kind of mufflers ranging from mild to moderate to aggressive sounds for different kinds of applications. Their three-chambered mufflers typically offer mild to moderate sounds such as the 50 Series Big Block, 70 Series Big Block II, 60 Series Delta Flow, 50 Series HD and others. Two and one-chambered mufflers produce aggressive sounds. The most popular line would be the 40 Series Delta Flow which helps increase horsepower and torque for late-model performance cars or the 40 Series classic. Flowmaster guarantees that these mufflers in a variety of sound levels maintain the same performance and mileage buyers expect.
